One day a farmer’s donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.
Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn’t worth it to retrieve the donkey.
He invited all his neighbors to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone’s amazement he quieted down.
A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well. He was astonished at what he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up. As the farmer’s neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well, and happily trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.
Do you ever feel that way?

Tidbits of information:
Think your child has attention deficit disorder? Sometimes, kids who are having trouble in school are incorrectly diagnosed with ADD/ADHD, when what they really have is a learning disability. Furthermore, many kids struggle with both ADD/ADHD and a learning disability. Check out: www.helpguide.org for lots of information for parents on a variety of disabilities.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers out there and also have a fun and safe Memorial Day.

Are You A Dog Tired Mom?
October 23, 2011 by moms

Sometimes as a mom we just get DOG TIRED – with our busy mom world. Here is a fun story that maybe you can relate to and possibly need to even be reminded to take time to REST as a mom.

An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard; I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of. He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep. An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and resumed his spot in the hall and again slept for about an hour. This continued off and on for several weeks. Curious I pinned a note to his collar: ‘I would like to find out who the owner of this wonderful sweet dog is and ask if you are aware that almost every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap.’
The next day he arrived for his nap, with a different note pinned to his collar: ‘He lives in a home with 6 children, 2 under the age of 3 -he’s trying to catch up on his sleep. Can I come along with him tomorrow?’
Do you ever feel that way?

In the know at the Clinic:

Last month we celebrated our 3 year anniversary with daily snacks, drinks and prizes. Everyday a boy and girl from the clinic won a prize if they came closest to guessing the number of M&M’s in the jar.

We participated in the Frey Fit Fest on Saturday, March 24th. It was a fun family event focused on being healthy. We donated jump ropes and playground balls for the
“Healthy Cake Walk”.

FUN, FUN, FUN!!!
Keep an eye out for our summer camps brochure. There is sure to be a camp or two that your child would love to participate in.

A study published in 2009 by Marsha Mailick Seltzer found that mothers of children with autism experience stress similar to that of combat soldiers. How a father copes is often overlooked in the research; however, recent findings suggest that 30% of these men are depressed to the point that they are in need of professional help. While there is certainly no quick fix to eliminate stress completely, feeling more in control of you and your child’s life is half the battle. Here are some techniques to cope with your stress and anxiety:
1. Put Yourself First 2. Have Realistic Self-Expectations 3. Accept Help 4. Stay Organized

Sports:

Baseball season begins on Saturday, April 14th and runs through Saturday, May 19th. Registration deadline is Friday, April 1st. All games will be played throughout the day on Saturday’s. This league is for athletes ages 5 years old and up with physical or developmental disabilities. The cost for the league is $15 which covers league expenses. If you are unable to afford the cost of the league, opportunities for financial aid are available by contacting Lauren Ham at 770-917-1234 or lham@acworth.org.
