FUN WRITING CAMP
Time: Ongoing - Call for dates & times!
Instructor: Pat Phillips CCC, SLP
Ages: Rising 3rd through 6th grades
Children at these ages have a multitude of fabulous ideas! However, organizing these ideas into a cohesive and understandable narrative or essay can be a challenge. Using fun, hands-on activities and experiments, students will translate their verbal excitement and ideas into narrative or expository writings which they can take home to share with their families. This camp is also a great preparation for the 3rd and 5th grade state writing assessments. (Minimum of 4 participants)
Increasing Verbal and Written Persuasive Skills
Time and Dates: Ongoing - Call for dates & times!
Instructor: Pat Phillips CCC, SLP
Ages: Rising 7th through high school Students in Georgia are required to take the Georgia Writing Test in 8th and 11th grades.
Passing this test in high school is one of the requirements for graduation. Students are asked to write an informational or persuasive paper on a given, unknown topic within a relatively short amount of time. Students must be able to understand the prompt, brainstorm appropriate ideas, and organize these ideas into a meaningful essay. Students who struggle with verbal and/or written language can find this activity extremely difficult and challenging. Using relevant topics, students will analyze issues, brainstorm appropriate ideas, organize those ideas, develop a guiding thesis statement, and turn a persuasive verbal argument into an effective written paper. This class is designed for students from grades 7 through high school on the standardized testing track. It is not designed for those taking the alternative assessment. (Minimum of 4 participants)
*Ongoing writing classes are available once per week. Call for days/times/prices.
